Vocational Training Services in Hong Kong

Vocational training develops skills and experience for work or supported employment. Programmes differ in their target participants, training content, work placements and ongoing support; ask how a programme connects with the person's own employment goals.

The directory listings below are a starting point for enquiries, not endorsements or a guarantee of availability. Confirm current services, eligibility, fees and application details directly with each provider.

Common ways support is delivered

  • Work-related skills

Training may practise tasks, routines, communication or workplace expectations linked to a person's interests.

  • Supported practice

A programme may use a training setting, simulated tasks or supervised work experience; clarify whether any placement is paid.

  • Employment planning

Some services connect skills development with job exploration or placement support, while others focus only on training.

A guide to the process

What the process may involve

  1. 1Discuss the person's interests, work goals and preferred support.
  2. 2Ask about eligibility, course content, practical placements, attendance and any allowance.
  3. 3Clarify whether job search and post-training support are included or need a separate service.

Time and commitment

There is no general duration for vocational training. In SWD's separate Supported Employment Training scheme, a job attachment may last up to 3 months, a job trial up to 6 months, and post-placement support is at least 12 months; these are scheme-specific stages, not a standard for all training. Check the named programme.

Hong Kong service pathways

SWD Integrated Vocational Rehabilitation Services Centres (IVRSCs) provide individualized training and employment-related support for eligible people with disabilities aged 15 or above; referrals follow specified social-worker or rehabilitation-unit routes. Other courses have different rules. Confirm eligibility and the referral route with SWD.

How it differs from related support

Vocational training builds work-related skills; employment support may focus more on finding or sustaining a job. Some programmes combine both, but this should be confirmed.

Points to consider

  • Ask whether the programme includes job exploration, practical training, placement or follow-along support.
  • Clarify attendance expectations, allowances if any, and how individual preferences are considered.

Questions to ask a provider

  • Who is eligible and what is the application route?
  • Are placements paid, simulated or training-based?
  • What support is available after training ends?
